My First Day College Experience not as a Student

Finally I joined in Institute of Aeronautical Engineering(IARE), Hyderabad. 10th Dec'08, I went to college, there were full crowd in front of the gate, I was thinking " Hey Kumar, Are you become a celebrity or what, this much people were standing outside the gate and welcoming you." Later I came to know that the students were striking against the principal of the college for one student was committed suicide. I went inside the college and met Prof.Subbaraju and came back to kukatpally to my room.

So formally the next day was my first day. Last hour I went to the class room 3rd year Aeronautical Engineering - Section A, along with Prof.Subbaraju. Prof.Subbaraju was introduced me " He is Muthu Kumar, did M.Tech from IIT Kanpur and he is going to teach you Aircraft Structures II" and he left. Once again I introduced myself " Hi everyone I'm Muthu Kumar and I'm going to teach you Aircraft Structures II."

Almost everyone were looking at me in a strange manner and they were thinking that how this short, junk fellow going to teach us Aircraft Structures II. Some of them were thinking that we can play with this short fellow and some people were doing their work. They were discussing among themselves about me and full of noise. Then I asked a permission to talk with them. I think, I was one who asked permission to talk with students, then noise was reduced little bit.

Then I said " listen, I will give you attendance and I will give you internal marks, no need to stand when I enter the class room and no need to say Good Morning or Good Evening. No need to call me Sir, you can call me Muthu or Kumar or call as your wish. I will not disturb you and you should not disturb me. This is a mutual agreement between us." Most of them were shocked because might be the first time they were hearing someone said like that from their three and half years college life.

Again I said " I will teach you what I know, I never bother about you whether you pass or fail in the subject. I never care about whether you got 100 or 0. That is none of my business. If you want to learn something sit in the class and I will help you. If don't want sit inside the class then please give me your roll number and get out of the class." Then I asked them two questions "what is mathematics?" and " What is a number?". After that I gave 20 min lecture on mathematics, How the numbers were developed. They might be enjoyed I guess, but in the later lectures I enjoyed a lot to teach them. Same thing happened in Section B too. There were lot funny incidents happened in the one year that I will write later. I hope they also might be enjoyed.

Regards,

Junk fellow (faculty)

hi kumar.... sir!:-) as you entered our class on the 1st day me and my classmates exchanged some looks......... i think every student understands it.. But i came to conclusion on the 1st day that "his class is going to be definitely interesting and different". As days passed, your class was far ahead of my 1st conclusion and i enjoyed every class by you and i had the chance to discuss a wide range of subjects with you apart from academics. You were the most memorable and influential teacher i have ever come across. I always believe that a teacher should be influential apart from being a guide. For this you score centum as a GOOD TEACHER

Yours
student always:-)
